Memories of Rhodesia - Newsletter
First, I would like to thank all of you who wrote so kindly to me after our last newsletter. Please forgive me if you did not hear from me direct, but be assured, your expressions of support were well received and appreciated.
July here is the height of summer. It's holiday time and being only two hours from the beach has its advantage. It got me thinking and remembering back to "the day" - what were some of the favorite holiday spots in Rhodesia. I guess it all depends how rugged you were - was it a camping or caravan trip, a stay at a resort or something else? Being in the Police we had access to the Police Holiday Cottages scattered throughout the country. But I reckon half of the fun was just getting there and back.
I remember the time we traveled from Fort Victoria to Kariba at 50 m.p.h. as that was the speed limit then. All that way with 2 small kids in a Ford Anglia! Needless to say, it took some time to get there, and just as long to get back. Inyanga in July with a nice log fire every night, or up with the sun fishing on Lake Kyle. Those 6 weeks a year leave, which could be accumulated, were great! And we thought we had it tough!
What were your favorite holiday spots and what memories do you have of them in Rhodesia? Do let us know and we will share them in our Down Memory Lane section. Talking of that, we are resurrecting that section and would love to hear from you with anything you have to share. Pay a visit to it on our Rhodesian Memories section at www.memoriesofrhodesia.com and take a wander.
Please, just a reminder to remember the Pensioners who still need help every month. There are several worthwhile organizations that help carry the burden, or you can make a donation using Paypal from our website.
As you will see, we are going back to using a different format for our newsletter. We are open to suggestions as to design, content or format and would appreciate your feedback.
